Welcome to ‘The Language Literacy Doctor’, a private practice specializing in the diagnosis  and treatment of childhood speech and language disorders, reading difficulties, and dyslexia.  Comprehensive evaluations and therapy in the areas of receptive and expressive language, speech production, reading, spelling, and writing skills are offered. Independent Educational Evaluations (IEE's) are also available. Therapy sessions can be offered on an individual or group basis , dependent on the student's needs.  

Dr. Conca uses the ORTON-GILLINGHAM approach to reading, spelling, and writing, and READING WITH TLC. Both approaches are multisensory, sequential, systematic, and individualized to meet your child's needs.

About Dr. Conca

Cindy Conca, EdD.,CCC/SLP is the owner of ‘The Language Literacy Doctor’, a private practice specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of language based learning disabilities including reading difficulties and dyslexia. Dr. Conca has over 30 years of experience as a Pediatric Speech Language Pathologist and reading specialist in a variety of settings including schools, outpatient clinics, client’s homes, and in private practice. Dr. Conca received a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Sciences from Queens College/CUNY, a Master of Arts in Speech Language Pathology from Hunter College/CUNY, and a Doctor of Education in Speech Language Pathology with a minor in Reading Education from Nova Southeastern University. She is a member of the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) and has maintained a Certification of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology (CCC-SLP).  Dr. Conca holds a current license as a Speech Language Pathologist in the state of Virginia. Dr. Conca is also an adjunct professor at Old Dominion University.

Although Dr. Conca has worked with a variety of children with speech and language needs, she specializes in the assessment and treatment of pediatric language disorders. Through her doctoral work and continuing education courses, Dr. Conca has researched and studied about the connections between language and reading. Language is the foundation for reading, writing, and all aspects of academic success. Dr. Conca has focused her practice on identifying and helping children who have difficulties with language and reading.

Dr. Conca is trained and experienced with ‘Reading with TLC’, which is a nationally renowned, researched-based and clinically proven reading program. This explicit, multi-sensory approach is effective with all types of learners and addresses the needs of students with various learning challenges, including students with reading disabilities, speech and language disorders, and memory weaknesses. Dr. Conca also uses techniques based on the principles  of the Orton-Gillingham approach, which is a multi-sensory based approach to reading intervention.
