About Cindy Conca
Owner, Speech-Language Pathologist
Cindy Conca, EdD., CCC/SLP is the owner of The Language Literacy Doctor. She specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of language-based learning disabilities, including reading difficulties and dyslexia.
Dr. Conca has over 36 years of experience as a pediatric speech-language pathologist and reading specialist. She has worked in a variety of settings, including schools, outpatient clinics, clients' homes, and private practice.
Dr. Conca's clinical expertise lies at the intersection of language and reading. Through her doctoral work and continuing education courses, Dr. Conca has researched and studied the connections between language and reading. Her therapy approach emphasizes that language is the foundation for reading, writing, and all aspects of academic success.
Dr. Conca is trained and experienced in the Orton-Gillingham approach, which is a nationally renowned, researched-based, and clinically proven approach to reading intervention. This explicit, multi-sensory approach is effective with all types of learners and addresses the needs of students with various learning challenges, including students with reading disabilities, speech and language disorders, and memory challenges. Dr. Conca also uses techniques from Reading with TLC, which is a multi-sensory reading program.
Dr. Conca is a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist in the state of Virginia. She is a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and has maintained her national Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology (CCC-SLP). Dr. Conca earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Sciences from Queens College/CUNY, her Master of Arts degree in Speech Language Pathology from Hunter College/CUNY, and her Doctor of Education in Speech Language Pathology with a minor in Reading Education from Nova Southeastern University. She continues to take advanced continuing education courses pertaining to language and literacy intervention.
